Abbeyside Camogie Champions Visit Scoil Mhuire.

The pupils of Scoil Mhuire were thrilled to welcome the triumphant Abbeyside junior camogie team who had won their first junior title defeating An Rinn. Many members of the panel are our own past pupils who recalled their early days of playing camogie  and representing our school. We wish them all the very best as they prepare for their first Munster club game.

Gaelic Football.

It continues to be a busy term for us on the GAA front. Our girls team performed very well in school football winning 2 out 3 of their games on the first day out. This qualified them for a semi final v Lismore. The girls played their hearts out demonstrating quality football, strong determination, firm focus and solid teamwork. Unfortunately they were defeated by one point on the day. Our girls had an opportunity to play again at the mini 7s. Facing a strong Ballymac team to begin with the girls proved to be competitive but the first match went to the Ballymac girls.  Many thanks to Ms Weldon and Ms Lake for all their time at training and fixtures.

Meanwhile the Scoil Mhuire boys team won all their matches on day one, defeated Lismore in the semi final and advanced to the Western Division A Final. This was held on Saturday October 19th at Dungarvan GAA club against Coláiste na Rinne. After a titanic battle the game ended in a draw and a replay was imminent. This was followed by a mini 7s day where the boys performed really well winning each game against Garranbane, Scoil Gharbháin and Kilrossanty but losing to a strong Stradbally team in the final. Mr. O Dea has been very busy at training and matches.

BREAKING NEWS! Just as we are about to publish the newsletter Our Jubilant Boys’ Football Team have returned to school following their replay v Coláiste na Rinne! Scoil Mhuire had won the replay and are now Western Champions!

The following is Mr O’Dea’s account.

On a cold and blustery morning, both teams played a very good match. Chances were at a premium as both defences were on top but our brave Scoil Mhuire boys battled until the very end outscoring Coláiste Na Rinne on a scoreline of 1 goal and 5 points for Scoil Mhuire to 6 points for the Coláiste.

After the final whistle and shaking hands, team captain, Seán Cullinane, lofted the trophy high in the air to a great cheer. The boys will now prepare for a county final against Ballygunner . Maith sibh buachaillí!
