Senior Classes are Out and About for Science

Science Week was celebrated nationally from November 10th-17th but there was no end to Scoil Mhuire’s involvement throughout the month of November. Fifth, fourth and third class had an opportunity to explore and learn about our local seashore under the expert guidance of Tina Keating from Heritage in Schools. Fourth class continued this by learning about and creating their own indoor volcanoes. Fourth, fifth and Sixth Class enjoyed a brisk walk in the Winter Sun over to Dungarvan College for a Science Demonstration. Here they viewed numerous interesting tests and experiments exploring the science of sport and other great topics of interest.

Family Feature.

This month we decided to feature a lovely and popular family in our school. It is rather unusual for a family of five to all attend primary school at the same time. Our picture shows Bari the big brother in 6th class, Rojin from 5th class, Zerya from 3rd class, Awesta from 1st class and young Ruan from Junior Infants. What a handsome and happy bunch.

Knitting Buddies.

Fifth and Sixth class have been teaming up recently to share their learning. Mrs. Barry has been delighted to welcome her former class to help the new knitters of Fifth class. It has been a very enjoyable experience and wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful help from the Sixth class boys and girls. Fifth Class are now mastering the basics and improving their skills very quickly.

Gaelic Football Schools' Final

On Friday last,November 22nd our rescheduled county football final took place in Abbeyside GAA Club.

Our opponents, St. Mary’s Ballygunner,  did win the contest but not before our boys put up a great battle and showed real spirit, especially in the second half. Both teams played very well and their fitness & skill was on view throughout. Although we were trailing at half time, our boys really dug deep and can be very proud of their efforts throughout.

Congratulations to Ballygunner and well done to our boys.

Foreign Language Classes Continue for 6th Class Pupils.

Both sixth classes have been enjoying foreign language lessons in school over the last 10 weeks.

Firstly, our French teacher, Ben, came for 6 weeks and all of the boys & girls embraced these interesting lessons and now we are in the middle of our 6 week block of Spanish lessons with Aintxane.

These fun lessons are giving a taste to our 6th class pupils of the language they might choose when they move on to post primary next September. Merci/Gracias Ben & Aintxane!

Chess Club.

Chess Club is as popular as ever with us at Scoil Mhuire. 5th and 6th class have been busy practising and improving their game after school at Our Chess Club. Mondays and Tuesdays are Chess Days and everyone is thinking ahead to our Féile Fichelle which we will host in January.  Many of the Mams and Dads are being challenged by their keen chess playing children. Keep it up all!
