Cumann na mBunscoil Primary Schools' Camogie.

Congratulations to our cailíní who had a marvellous win over Ballymacarbry NS in the recent Cumann na mBunscoil Shield Final. The girls have been training diligently this term and were thrilled to represent our school in  Dungarvan GAA club grounds recently. Each member of the panel made a valuable contribution to the final. They demonstrated superb skill and strong teamwork. Fair play to Ballymac girls for a great game. Well done to Ms Lake and Ms. Weldon for coaching the girls. Maith sibh!

Table Tennis Final.

Pictured are the four semi finalists in our Scoil Mhuire Table Tennis League, 2025. More than 45 pupils from 6th class had weekly lessons over 6 weeks culminating in our much anticipated knock out league. After a series of very competitive games the 4 pictured made it to the semi finals. Tom was our overall winner beating Gary in a fantasic and nail biting final played over the best 3 games.

This years 5th classes were in attendance and they say they are ready to reach the high levels set by this years 6th classes.

Well done to Sarah and Ellie for dishing up a high standard in the semis.

Maith sibh gach éinne.

M and M Productions.

All pupils were treated to a professional production of “The Jungle Book” performed by M and M productions.

Our hall was transformed into an interactive theatre for the day. Junior Infants to Sixth Class thoroughly enjoyed this great show. Third Classes were treated to an informative drama workshop afterwards. A lovely way to spend a school morning.

Life in Infants.

 Well done everyone!

West Waterford Primary School Sports.

All roads led to the St Augustine’s (the Friary) on Thursday last for the 37th Annual West Waterford Primary Schools’ Sports. This is always a fabulous event in the sporting calendar and 2025 was no different. Eager under 8s brought excitement and enthusiasm in abundance as they looked forward to their debut in the Scoil Mhuire singlet. Experienced under 9s displayed a steady focus, they knew the ropes. Keen under 10s studied the track and carefully counted the flags, just to be certain.  Lively under elevens were meticulous in their preparation, they would make no mistake. Athletic under 12s took it all in their stride and our ever loyal over 12 boys and girls did their school proud as they showed commitment and determination right to the finish line. Many of our runners were thrilled to qualify for the Western Final on Thursday May 29th.  We’ll have to wait til the June Newsletter for the full account.

Scoil Mhuire Munster Tennis.

The Scoil Mhuire Abbeyside Tennis team competed valiantly in the Munster Schools’ final in Midleton. They had a close final and played magnificent tennis but victory eluded them. They were a great team and looked so smart in their new club gear.

Wellness Week and Pieta House Fundraiser.

Mr. Pattwell and his  Wellbeing Committee organised a wonderful week of wellness activities this month. We included a novel fundraiser for Pieta house. Mr Pattwell pointed out the since we have 486 pupils enrolled  and since Ireland is 487km in length wouldn’t it be nice for us to run that distance together as a school. (Using our great school field of course.) Energy levels were high. Everybody ran one km. Younger pupils took 200 metres per day. Older pupils managed the full km. Everyone was excited to spot Mr. Pattwell plotting and tracking our progress on the map of Ireland. Meanwhile our Wellbeing Committee collected the sponsorship cards and donations and counted the money. Believe it or not our generous sum came to a whopping  total of €7,150  all in aid of Pieta House. We are very grateful to all families for making this a great success.

In addition to that marvellous event every child had an opportunity to partake in group yoga in the field. We are highly privileged to have our own qualified yoga instructor on staff. Mags provided us with some thoroughly enjoyable sessions. The silence in the field was remarkable, with birdsong adding to the ambiance.  Mags’ yoga soundtrack made for a truly zen experience.
