Beautiful Easter Bonnets.
There was an abundance of creativity to be seen around Scoil Mhuire on Easter Week as children proudly modelled their home made Easter Bonnets. Children demonstrated originality and talent as the participants brought their creations to school. Mrs. Mcgrath was thrilled with the level of uptake in this popular event. Spring is certainly in the air now!
Mary Walsh Quiz.
Every Easter, Scoil Mhuire hosts a bumper table quiz. This superb event is organised in memory of our dear former colleague Mrs.Mary Walsh RIP. Mrs Walsh was an inspiring teacher who loved school and among many of her great teaching passions she loved to promote quizzes. Teams were carefully organised by Ms. Máire Walsh. Ten rounds of general knowledge and current affairs really entertained and challenged the children. Ms. Walsh the MC and event organiser ensured the quiz ran with top efficiency. Surplus questions were held for the all exciting tie break finisher. Finally the winners were announced and they received the Mary Walsh Perpetual Trophy, individual trophies and of course a yummy Easter Egg. Well done all!
Hockey.
Scoil Mhuire recently participated in the Waterford Interschools Hockey Tournament 2025. The event was held in Newtown and eight 6th class girls travelled to it. Players competed for the cup and shield events. Our girls participated in the cup event and did our school proud.

Eight chess players travelled to Ballinameela to compete against other schools from counties Waterford, Tipperary and Cork. Each player played six games. All players performed really well and had a very enjoyable day. Well done to Laura, Lucy, Mya, Jack, Adam, Frankie, Fionn and Bari.

Spar FAI Primary Fives Tournament.
On 28th of February our school 5-aside soccer teams
travelled to SETU for the Spar FAI Primary Fives
tournament.
Over the course of the day our two boys and two girls
teams played various schools from around the county.
Our two boys teams and one of the girls teams fought
off tough competition to advance to the county finals.
On the 8th April, we were back in SETU for the county
finals. All three teams came up against stiff competition
at this stage and unfortunately did not advance to the
next stage of the competition.
Well done to all those who participated across both stages
of the tournament.
School Tennis.
The Scoil Mhuire Abbeyside tennis team qualified for the Munster Final in the Primary Schools Green Ball Competition. They travelled to Mallow for the semi final and beat the local team in a super doubles final that went down to the wire. They showed great resilience and composure under pressure. This will stand to them when they compete in the Munster Final on Wednesday May 21st. The school and their coach Shelly Mernin are so proud of this great team and their wonderful achievement.
