September Newsletter 2026.

The September Welcome.

All at Scoil Mhuire wish to extend a very warm welcome back, to everyone after a very hot and sunny summer. We would especially like to welcome our lovely new junior infants who are settling in well and making great progress. Ms Power, Ms McCloskey and Mr Cliffe are delighted to see their eager pupils growing in confidence and independence and mastering new tasks every week. We wish them all and their families a very happy and productive eight years with us

Traffic Warden Teams.

Our fifth and sixth class traffic warden schedule is up and running smooothly now.  Sixth class wardens are showing their experience and leading the way. Congratulations to the new fifth class teams who are beginning their service with us. We remind all parents, childminders and roadusers to cooperate with our teams of wardens (and indeed to cooperate with Tracy our lollipop lady) at all times. Ms Butler reports that our wardens have completed the programme of training and are fulfilling their duties well.

SNA Appreciation.

Scoil Mhuire is a very industrious place. Everybody works really hard in their area of the school. Our SNAs are an incredible group of understated ladies who really are the reason that school is a safe and happy place for so many. They have a unique connection with our pupils and provide a tremendous service to all. We appreciate them every single day and September 24th is the official SNA appreciation day!

Missing from the photo are Elaine, Sue and Anne.

Fifth Class Cycling.

Fifth Class boys and girl are currently completing the 5 week Cycle Rite training course. Niall and Aisling, the 2 expert cycling coaches form the Cycle Rite company take the children through essential safety checks, basic maintainence, observation, signalling and the rules of cycling on the road. Our school yard becomes an interesting streetscape with temporary lanes, junctions and roundabouts. Niall and Aisling hope to bring the fifth class out on the local roads on the final day of Cycle Training. Our aim is for our pupils to be competent and safe cyclists.

GAA Coaching.

Fourth, fifth and sixth class have enjoyed Gaelic Football Coaching with James Lacey recently. Our school field is a wonderful asset where everyone enjoyed some September sunshine doing our GAA drills and games.

Scoil Mhuire Gaelic Football Teams.

Well done to this fantastic group of girls who represented Scoil Mhuire, Abbeyside with pride yesterday at the first football outing of this school year. They played 3 really tough games against Scoil Gharbháin, Garranbane and St. Mary’s where they managed to top the group! Team work and determination has booked them their spot in the Western Semi-Finals which will take place in the coming weeks. Date to be confirmed! Maith sibh go léir cailíní! We are immensely proud of you!

Pictured are our senior boys who played in Dungarvan GAA Club recently. The boys played 3 high quality games against St. Joseph’s, Scoil Gharbháin and Garranbane.

The full squad all played their part & we now go forward to face Cappoquin in the semi final of the shield competition.

It was our first time wearing our new set of jerseys and all should be proud of their efforts.

Maith sibh buachaillí.h

Mikey Phelan's Cycle for Owen.

The senior pupils of Scoil Mhuire were highly honoured to welcome a very special visitor to Scoil Mhuire this week. Ms O Grady’s boys and girls had been following the journey of Mikey Phelan who embarked on a cycle aroung the world as he fundraised for St John’s Special School. Mikey’s late brother Owen, RIP was a pupil at St John’s School. Our pupils listened with amazement to his interesting and inspiring stories about his journey of 30,000km over 17 months.  We listened to tales of his brave adventures, wild camping, cycling through deserts and mountains, encounters with people and animals, playing sport and of course his return cycle home from Cork to Dungarvan. Mikey raised €40,000 for his great cause in St John’s school all in memory of his lovely brother Owen.,
