Figure it Out (FIO) is an unfamiliar text to pupils but is very user friendly. Children can put all work in the same copy so maths is fine in a normal copy.  Some children may have Ready to Go and Abair Liom at home. Those that have Mental Maths and Spelling WorkBook continue as normal.

Hi all, we hope you are keeping well and enjoying the good weather. This week’s work will follow a similar plan to last week. You will practise multiplication of bigger numbers but we also want you to think about time. Check the time often every day and read it in analogue and digital time. Say how long it has been since you checked it last. Estimate and calculate how long it takes you and others to do things. It might be fun to write down and compare times.

Week Beginning 6th May 2020

Hi all, we hope you are keeping well, getting out and being active and don’t forget to help out at home and read for fun. Only 3 days work this week (we hope you are not too disappointed!) The English work is in Get Set –Wonderland Stage 3 from cjfallon.ie. and we will look at Time in Busy at Maths 3 and Figure It Out 3. After the Vikings the Normans were the next group of people to attack Ireland but would you believe the Irish invited them! We will check that out in history.
How did you get on bird watching? Can you remember the birds you saw last week? I saw crows, blackbirds, magpies, starlings, robins, thrushes and swallows. I didn’t see a wren or a cuckoo but I did see buzzards, a pheasant and a willy wagtail!

Dungarvan Castle, also known as King Jonn’s Castle, is a Norman castle built in 1185. English Reading for today is a poem in Get Set p127 .Pick out your favourite sounding words. Onomatopoeia words sound like the sound itself e.g.sizzle . Can you find other onomatopoeia words in this poem? Read the poem aloud a few more times using good vocal expression.

History: Tell someone the history of the Normans in Ireland. Who they were, where they came from, why Diarmuid Macmurrough invited them, who Strongbow was, what Diarmuid promised him, where and when they first landed in Ireland, describe their castles, food and clothes . Don’t forget to mention their pastimes and finally how they settled in Ireland.
