Hope you are all keeping well.

This is some work for you to do during the next fortnight. We realise that you may not have the particular copies and books with you at home but you can use whatever you have and we have work based on online material. Do your best!

English

  1. Spelling Workbook- Unit 13

Complete the unit as you would normally do in class, learning the spellings and getting Mam or Dad to test you on Fridays.

  1. Reading-If you have a class novel, then read a chapter a day; if not, read your own books.

oxfordowl.co.uk and allyoucanbooks.com are just two websites offering free ebooks if you run out of reading material!!

  1. Writing- i.Daily Diary-Start a new copy and keep a personal account of this time which is history in the making and will be talked about in a 100 years time!!

Hi to all in 6th and to the parents, Dia dhaoibh go léir,
We hope you are all keeping well and keeping busy. It appears that we will not be back in school for another while, so we are going to put up weekly work, broken into daily activities for you to do. We are asking you to do what you can. We appreciate that it is not as easy to do that outside the classroom environment and without the physical presence of your teacher!! 3. Gaeilge-Folens online. Abair liom H. You can open both the ebook and resources if you have access to a laptop. So if you are able, go to the chapter titled Tubaistí Nadúrtha and listen to the speaker telling you about natural disasters around the world. Simply play it a few times and try to repeat after her.

Hi to all in 6th Class.

Hope you are all well and managing to do some, or all !!! of the work assigned.

Remember it is all about keeping the skills going without killing yourself! We hope you are taking the opportunity to do new things as well. I am, and of course going for my daily exercise and enjoying this very unique time. We hope you are doing the same. Below are the answers for last week`s maths work. History Answers

  1. Hannah Brown was 9 years old when she started working.
  2. Jonathan went to work when he was 7 years old. If he or any other child got sleepy when they were working then the person in charge would catch them by the legs and duck them in a container of water to wake them up.
  3. The overlookers or bosses used to cut off the hair of any girl caught talking to a lad. This head shaving was a dreadful punishment.
  4. John Fairbrother said they were whipped if they were late for work.
  5. “Two children I know got employment in a factory when they were five years old………….the spinning men or women employ children if they can get a child to do their business……..the child is paid one shilling or one shilling and six pence, and they will take that (five year old) child before they take an older one who will cost more.” George Gould, a Manchester merchant, written in 1816.
  6. John Brown had to constantly stay on his feet for hours picking up the loose cotton from the floor.

Week Beginning 6th May 2020

Hello again to all in both 6th classes.
Hoping you are all keeping well and getting through as much of the work as you can.
This week would have been a three day week in Scoil Mhuire if we were going to school, as we were due to be closed on the Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th, as well as the Tuesday so to be fair to you all we are assigning three days of work but again and as always : do your best!

Try to always have a book ‘on the go’ and get out and about {as much as is allowed of course!} to get fresh air and to keep active. There is no excuse with the lovely spell of weather that we have had and the lovely stretch in the evenings.
