Ms. Ryan Retires from Scoil Mhuire.

Just as the teachers and pupils prepared for our Halloween mid term, our popular teacher Ms. Marguerite Ryan was preparing for a more substantial break. October 23rd was to be her final day teaching with us. Ms. Ryan has devoted a substantial amount of time as a highly valued colleague and teacher in Scoil Mhuire.  As a member of the SET department, Ms. Ryan worked very hard to ensure all of her pupils did their best to achieve their top potential at school. She demonstrated  how consistency, determination, focus and hard work really did deliver results and pupils really thrived in her classes. One of Ms. Ryans most notable achievements was the setting up our fabulous Autism Classroom. Ms Ryan used her special qualifications, experience and skills to ensure that our two autism rooms would be planned, equipped and run to the highest possible standard. Her professional and personal qualities as a teacher made this large project and enormous success. On her last day before retirement presentations were made by Ms Sharon Fitzpatrick of the Parents’ Association and by her colleagues.

Ms. Ryan, the staff and children will really miss you, we know that you will miss us too. We wish you and your family many years of health, happiness and enjoyment in your retirement. Congratulations on your superb contribution to education at Scoil Mhuire.

Science Week at Scoil Mhuire.

Science week is held every Novemeber. It is a time when we take an opportunity to showcase the great work being done in all classes throughout the year. Scoil Mhuire places a strong value on STEM subjects. We try to nurture children’s enquiring minds and guide them towards discovering their own solutions and outcomes. Tina Keating from Heritage in Schools is a regular visitor to our school and helps us learn about science in everyday things and science in our locality.

GAA Coaching at Scoil Mhuire.

First, Second and Third classes have been enjoying Gaelic Football Coaching with James Lacey. This provides them with a opportunity to have specialist coaching in skills and games development. A welcome opportunity to enjoy the fresh air on a winter’s morning and to have fun with our friends.

Chess Club.

Chess club has been proving as popular as ever this year as 45 pupils from 5th and 6th classes participate in our after school sessions.  Mondays and Tuesdays are busy evenings in Ms Barry’s room but it’s always very quiet as members are concentrating on their game. Beginners have made enoromous progress and improvers are practising their strategies and developing their game. Parents are reporting great competitiveness at home as everyone is practising. It’s a really lovely winter hobby which anyone can enjoy!  There will be chess lessons for 4th class after the February mid term.
