Science Week.

All pupils and teachers were very engaged in investigation and enquiry based learning during Science Week Ireland (November 13th – 20th.)  A variety of strands of the science curriculum were being explored at all class levels.  Materials, energy and forces and environmental awareness and care were the categories that the teachers chose from. Third Class took their science to the local beach to construct volcanos and watch them erupt. Fourth class immersed themselves in an informative Climate Change Project.  Second Class proudly displayed their Rainbow Walking Water Experiment.  Fifth  and sixth classes were busy exploring acids and bases and creating electric circuits.  As a promoter of STEM subjects Scoil Mhuire will again seek to achieve the Science Foundation of Ireland  Curious Minds Excellence in Science Award in the new year.

Parents' Association Quiz.

Third and Fourth Class had an enjoyable evening in the school hall recently for the Parents’ Association Table Quiz.

Many thanks to the PA committee for their time and work ensuring a very entertaining evening.

Tag Rugby.

Fifth and sixth class have welcomed rugby coach Joey Doherty from Dungarvan Rugby Club for Tag Rugby Sessions. The pupils were very enthusiastic about this and have been improving every week.

Chess Club.

Fifth and sixth class have been enjoying Chess Club after school on Mondays. There has been enormous demand and both the beginners and improvers groups are very well attended. Mrs Barry reports that the beginners group are mastering the game very quickly and are taking great interest in challenging their peers (and their parents.) Meanwhile the improvers are working on their tactics and extending their game strategies. Chess Club will resume after Christmas.
