Credit Union Quiz.

Congratulations to our u11 and u13 quiz teams who were very successful in the regional level of the Cairde Credit Union Quiz. Our u11 team had an exciting finish in a tiebreak situation with three schools in second position. Following two rounds of challenging questions we realised we were through to the chapter level in March. Our u13 team was thrilled to finish the night in first place over all.

As usual Cairde Credit Union had this great event superbly organised with 38 teams in total on the night. Congratulations to our u11s Ronan, Oisín, Stephen, Seb and Hashim. Congratulations to our u13s team Douglas, Ronan, Lucas, Thomas, Aaron and Sean. Keep up the good work!

Sixth Class Enjoy a Wellness Workshop.

Both sixth classes started the new year on a very positive note with a Wellness Workshop. Facilitated by Motus Learning the children explored emotions, how to regulate emotions, how our brains work, how to deal with difficult situations, empathy and social skills. The underlying objective of the day was to develop our emotional intelligence. This was expertly delivered by facilitator Amy Walsh in a very enjoyable and interesting fashion. The sixth look forward to developing and practising the content of the day in class and beyond.

DKAM Gymnastics.

Our junior classes have been enjoying gymnastics lessons with Kenny and Mikey from DKAM.  There is great excitement when the children take their slot in the hall and practise their movement. Scoil Mhuire has been providing this for our pupils for a number of years now and the teachers have noted a remarkable improvement in children’s coordination, control, agility and general movement skills. Forward and backward rolls, donkey kicks, rock and roll, are becoming very easy for the pupils now. Our Senior pupils are looking forward to having DKAM next month.

Junior Infant Aistear.

This month we feature Ms. Power’s Junior Infants busy enjoying finger gym.

Preparing for St. Brigid's Day.

The children in Scoil Mhuire have been busy preparing for the feast of St. Brigid. Our photos show Ms. Fennell’s 4th class making St. Brigid’s Crosses. Ms. Looby’s 6th class provided great assistance. Well done all!

Internet Safety Day.

We were very fortunate at Scoil Mhuire to experience an internet safety day with forensic psychologist Maureen Griffin. Fifth Class and then sixth class attended a comprehensive presentation by the visiting expert.  This was a very informative day where the good and bad aspects of using the internet were explored. The importance of having a good password was taught to everyone. We learned that we should treat our password like a toothbrush, never share it and change it regularly.  We discussed the importance of accessing age appropriate content, apps and games. We explored the importance of limiting our screen time and getting a good night’s sleep. The parents attending a follow up meeting with Maureen Griffin where feedback of the in school day was provided.
