Follow the Yellow Brick Road.

It’s been a spectacular journey for all involved as our production of “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” was finally staged. The scale of the work since January has been immeasurable but the quality of our singing, dancing and performing spoke volumes. Ms. McCloskey, Ms. Lake and Mr De Paor prepared and perfected, tutored and tuned, rehearsed and repeated, primed and polished all our cast members to produce a show of an amazing standard. We had a full house for all performances and we thank our audiences for their support. The children were always willing to stay back after school for rehearsals and practise their parts at home. Many members of staff contributed to this vast undertaking through planning, set design, costumes, make up, props, social media promotion, sound, lights, backstage, front of house etc.  All involved will cherish great memories of this experience and it will no doubt be one of the highlights of their time with us at Scoil Mhuire.

Confirmation and Holy Communion.

Our second class boys and girls received their First Holy Communion on Saturday May 9th.  Mrs Power, Ms Ev Looby and Ms Walsh had worked extremely hard preparing the boys and girls for a meaningful and holy occasion. The children attended really well to the prayers, hymns and reflections ensuring that their first holy Communion Day would be a sincere and faithful experience for them and their families. Fr. Hassett and Fr James provided beautiful ceremonies and made each child’s experience spiritually rich . Ms. Cunningham led the beautiful singing accompanied by Mr. De Paor. As always our sarcistan Eileen was  on hand to support us in every way possible. Tony and Jenny were busy behind the scenes with equipment, booklets and flowers. Many thanks to the Parents’ Association for organising the lovely teas afterwards.

Our 6th class received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday May 12th. Great preparations were in place for the visit of Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan to Abbeyside.  Ms Looby and Mr O’ Dea’s children did themselves, their school and their families proud on this special day.   Congratulations all.

West Waterford Primary School Sports.

Scoil Mhuire had a strong representation at the friary sports on May 14th.  Their training paid off and all children wore their singlet with pride.

We were thrilled that most of our participants qualified for the Western Final on May 28th. This was another successful event with many individuals and relays being placed in the top 3. Many thanks to West Waterford AC for holding this marvellous event. Further official photos will soon be available on West Waterford AC social media pages.

Scoil Mhuire Girls' Soccer.

The following an account written by Ms Looby and Mr O’ Dea following a great soccer event in Cahir recently.

Our girls travelled to Cahir today to represent Waterford in the Munster FAI Primary 5s soccer tournament @faischools

They were phenomenal from start to finish and only lost in extra time to an extremely strong Limerick side.

The girls showed tremendous skill, great determination and resolve and wonderful dignity both in victory and in defeat. They are a credit to themselves, their parents and our school.

We are so so proud of you girls.

Scoil Mhuire Boys' Soccer.

What a phenomenal achievement for our boys soccer team, who were crowned Munster champions today after an unforgettable day at the FAI Primary Fives Finals in Cahir Park AFC! @faischools

The boys showed incredible skill, determination, and heart throughout the competition, battling bravely against CBS Nenagh (Tipperary) and Scoil Náisiúnta Mhuire na mBraithre (Kerry) to top their group and book their place in the knockout stages.

A thrilling semi-final saw them overcome a very strong St. Brigid’s NS Limerick side, setting up an all-or-nothing final against Scoil Náisiúnta an Chroí Naofa (Cork).

In an incredibly tense and exciting final, Scoil Mhuire emerged victorious thanks to a dramatic late winner!

The boys showed remarkable resilience, work rate, teamwork, and determination all day long, coming from behind on several occasions and never giving up. Their attitude and spirit were a credit to themselves, their families, and the school.

As Munster champions, they now advance to the All-Ireland Primary Fives Finals in the Aviva Stadium this June — an amazing opportunity and a richly deserved reward for this outstanding group of players! The boys are now busy training and preparing for the big final.

Table Tennis.

Sixth class pupils have an option to play table tennis after school on Mondays or Wednesdays. Mr. O’ Dea organises these popular sessions. This then culminates in a competitive final. Fifth class were invited to spectate and were treated to 2 entertaining semi finals and an exciting final. Well done to the four boys for playing so well!
