World Ocean Day

Junior and Infant Classes marked the World Ocean Day (June 8th) by welcoming author Richard Shore. All children were captivated by his stories. Richard explained how he based his books on his own love of the sea and of the outdoors. He spoke of how he created the stories and how he drew the illustrations himself by hand.  “Hurrahtum Adventures” and “Will’s Wild Adventures” have really come to life for us all thanks to a real life experience with an author.

Our Fun Sports Day

Mr O’ Dea and his class had busily prepared a wonderful circuit of fun sports and activities for us all on Thursday June 15th. The 6th class committee really put their organisational skills to show by running limbo, wellie throwing, novelty races, water races, tug of war, parachute fun, penalties and many more. Played to a backdrop of summer sunshine and enhanced by Mr O’Dea’s summer playlist everyone enjoyed the day immensely.

Athletics Day

Tuesday June 20th was our own Scoil Mhuire Athletics Final Day. The whole school assembled in the Junior Yard for a musical warm up. Led by Mrs Barry’s 5th class all children participated with enthusiasm to the Time for Africa routine.  This has really become a household favourite and a new party piece for many. Following the warm up all infants proceeded to the field where they all participated in class races. The start line brought excitement and nervousness in equal measure but nothing would deter them from giving it everything and finding the finish line at high speed. All participating infants received certificates to acknowledge their outstanding participation and wonderful sportsmanship!

Sprints from 1st-6th class followed.  These children had qualified from class heats earlier in June. The top three finishers would be awarded medals later. Finally, an event of high interest was the relay final. Mixed teams of 4 from 2nd-6th class completed the circuits and expertly passed the batons. Cheers from onlookers in the spectator area added to the atmosphere. Stewards from 5th class ensured smooth running of the event. A medal presentation in the school hall afterwards concluded the proceedings. A lovely day for all

involved.

Farewell to our 6th Class

Our 6th class children finished their time at Scoil Mhuire on Wednesday June 21st. Friends shared fond memories of their time with us. T shirts were signed, all pledging to be friends forever.  Parents attended a graduation mass in the school hall celebrated by Fr Hassett.  The 6th class have made a wonderful contribution to our school during their time here. We wish them the very best in the next chapter of their education wherever they go.

Our Locality

The children of Scoil Mhuire have enjoyed taking their learning outdoors this month by enjoying the marvellous amenities on our doorstep. More classes studied the local Seashore under the guidance of Tina from Heritage in Schools.  4th and 6th enjoyed cycling on the greenway. Younger classes paid a visit to the playground. 5th class visited Dungarvan Castle. 6th class tried out pitch and putt at the Cunnigar Pitch and Putt club. This all proves what a wonderful place we live in.
