Biodiversity Workshops.
This term we turned our biodiversity attention to freshwater streams. Lorraine O’ Sullivan from Heritage in Schools delivered a spectacular workshop for 3rd and 5th classes. The pupils learned very specialised information about species that live in or near a freshwater habitat. Everyone had a opportunity to examine the interesting wildlife and learn about their habits.
School Tours.
All classes have really enjoyed going on their school tours with their school friends. 5th and 6th class travelled last month. In June, 4th class enjoyed the science experience at Fota Wildlife Park, 2nd and 3rd class had a blast at SETU. 1st class had an amazing time at Activate, , Senior Infants saw it all at Ardmore Open Farm our lovely Junior Infants had a thrilling time at World of Bounce. In additon to an entertaining venue there’s nothing like a picnic and bus journey with your friends.
Sports Day.
Traditionally Mr O’ Dea and his class organise and run a spectacular whole school Sports Day. Every blade of grass in our field is covered with delighted children participating in parachute games, water races, sack races, gutter ball, tug of war and many more. Well done, rang a sé for doing a fabulous job!
FAI Primary 5s National Finals.
The Scoil Mhuire 5 aside Boys’ soccer team had a memorable and historic day in the Aviva Stadium on June 9th. Following months of training with Ms Looby and Mr O Dea, impressive county and munster victories under their belts the boys journeyed to the capital for this exciting event.
Their campaign got off to an excellent start with an impressive 4-1 victory over Scoil Íosagáin, Buncrana. They then faced the very strong Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, showing great determination and skill despite a 4-2 defeat. In their final game of the day, the boys produced another spirited performance aagainst St. Laurence’s NS battling hard until the final whistle before narrowly losing 3-1. Reaching this stage of the competition is a fantastic achievement in itself and the boys represented their school with tremendous pride, commitment and sportsmanship throughout the day. Their effort, teamwork and resiliance against some outstanding opposition are something they can be very proud of! Maith sibh buachaillí
Scoil Mhuire Junior Traffic Wardens.
We are very proud of our teams of junior traffic wardens who have successfully completed a year of service at Scoil Mhuire, assisting the pupils to cross the road safely. Under the guidance of Ms Fraher, the teams undergo a specific and thorough training programme and attend to their duties in every weather. Waterford City and County Council attended at Scoil Mhuire to present certificates to the junior wardens.
June Gardening Update.
Farewell to Our 6th Class.
Every June we bid farewell to another group of our students. The class of 2026 had an eventful term with a variety of enjoyable off site learning. On their final day with us we welcomed them and their families to join us for their graduation mass. Fr Hassett celebrated a mass that was personal to each member of the two classes. It was a fitting way to formally close their educational journey at Scoil Mhuire. We would like to congratulate the boys and girls of Ms Looby and Mr O’ Dea’s classes for their contribution to Scoil Mhuire. We extend our best wishes to them in their chosen secndary school.
Happy Holidays!

We wish the pupils and their families a safe a happy summer. School Returns on Thursday August 28th! That’s plenty of time to have a brilliant break!
