Bí Cinneálta.
All schools in the country participate in the Bí Cinnealta (Be kind) Programme. As part of this programme classes have have been assigned suitable programmes of work to complete. 5th class have just completed a 10 week programme called Weaving Wellbeing. All classes are teaching Stay Safe this term as part of our SPHE curriculum. . Our Wellbring Committee is busy behind the scenes preparing posters to promote wellbeing for all.
Gymnastics.
Infants, first and second classes have been enjoying a block of Gymnastics with Kenny from DKAM. All pupils receive expert coaching in our school hall during term 2. DKAM is in the school every Tuesday for a total of 10 weeks. Kenny reports suitable improvements in children’s agility, strength, coordination and sequencing. Every year the pupils build on what they have achieved previously and advance a little bit further. Gymnastics coaching continues next month and senior pupils will have their turn.
Hot Lunches.
There’s been great excitement this month as the Hot Lunch Initiative has been introduced at Scoil Mhuire. Pupils are delighted with the variety of choice available. Parents are relieved to have less lunch preparation in the morning. Children are trying out various dishes are are enjoying a wholesome, fresh and hot meal. Bia Óg provides these hot lunches in reusable canisters so no waste! That’s brilliant news!
GAA Coaching.
James Lacey has been providing coaching in Gaelic Football to 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils. We are very lucky at Scoil Mhuire to have the use of the field, yard and hall. This means that GAA coaching can go ahead in all conditions.
Chess News.
Chess Club for 5th and 6th class continues every Monday and Tuesday. This will conclude on February 12th when we host the Féile Fichelle tournament. Ms. Barry and Ms Power will then begin chess lessons for any fourth class who are interested on February 16th. The children will recieve a letter in advance of this.
