Féile Fichelle 2025.
Scoil Mhuire was the recent host of Féile Fichelle, an inter schools celebration of the game of chess. We welcomed chess players from S.N. Bhaile Mhic Airt, Old Parish, Bunscoil Bhothar na Naomh, Lismore, St. Mary’s Touraneena, St. James’s NS. Stradbally, Our Lady of Mercy NS. Stradbally and of course ourselves Scoil Mhuire. The purpose of the day is to celebrate our knowledge of the game and to enjoy it in a sociable and fun setting. 140 children and their teachers marvelled at our wonderful facilities as we accomodated the players in our spacious school hall. The chess arbiter Ms Sharon Mullins ensured the event ran like clockwork, she recorded all game results and published the next round of fixtures for the children after each round. This was a marvellous opportunity for us to improve our skills have fun with chess. We are very thankful to Tony, Mr O’ Dea and his 6th class for working hard to prepare the hall for the day.

Internet Safety.
Fourth, fifth and sixth class have had very informative sessions on internet safety this month. Janice from Cyber Safety Kids presented a highly engaging and somewhat surprising workshop to the senior children. She impressed on all the importance of good behaviour when using online platforms. We learned a little about algorithms and how all our online communications are traceable. We all now have a greater awareness of online communications and where our messages go. We will be very mindful of protecting ourselves and showing kindness to others.
