Sixth Class Fundraiser for The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation.
There’s been a wonderful atmosphere in Mr. O’Dea and Ms Looby’s rooms this December as members took their turn to visit all other classes, raising funds for this year’s chosen charity “The Jack and Jill Foundation”. Pupils would be delighted when they heard the morning knock, indicating the arrival of the visiting collectors. We all wondered what novelty jumpers and accessories would brighten up our morning. What new joke would we hear and remember from 6th class. Thanks to the generous support of the families in Scoil Mhuire, sixth class raised an impressive €1065! This charity initiative began some years ago at Scoil Mhuire and has proven to be a super alternative to the exchange of gifts and cards at school. Sixth Class pupils nominate the charity each year.
Well done Rsng a Sé!
School Quizzes.
We have a great tradition of quizzing at Scoil Mhuire. The Scoil Mhuire Parents’ Association recently held an inter schools’ table quiz at night. This is always a popular and well attended event. Many thanks to all who supported it and to the Parents’ Association for organising and running it.
Meanwhile, Ms Walsh was very busy preparing two huge school quizzes for pupils from 1st to 6th class. All teams had a member from each class so everyone had a fair chance. There was very little between the teams throughout the quiz but a result was achieved and the winner and runners up were announced. Well done all!
Santa Visits Scoil Mhuire.
Who would’ve thought coming to school would be so exciting. The children at Scoil Mhuire had butterflies in their tummies when they realised that Santa had come to visit. Everybody was astounded with Santa’s spectacular appearance and awestruck by his magic colouring book. He spoke nicely to each class and gave some valuable advice on how to be on the “good list.” We would like to thank Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to see us in December.
Scoil Mhuire Choir.
The Scoil Mhuire Choir were delighted to perform at the Dungarvan Community Christmas Concert on Wednesday, 3rd Dec at the Friary Church in aid of St. Vincent De Paul. They sang 3 songs and Caoimhe, Robyn, Alivia and Pippa led the audience sing along at the end of the concert. WLR FM recorded the concert, and it will be broadcast on Christmas Eve at 10pm and Christmas Day at 6pm. Well done to all involved!
Our Christmas Carol Singing Assembly.
All pupils at Scoil Mhuire learn a substantial repertoire of songs in many genres during their eight years with us. Our annual Christmas Assembly is always a very atmospheric event. The carols were prepared and practised in advance. Our lead singer Ms. McCloskey and our talented musicians Mr. Pattwell, Ms. Fennell, Mr De Paor, Ms. Miller and Ms Mansfield ensured the event was a rich musical experience for all. Our traditional hymns such as The First Noel and Silent Night along with popular classics like It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Go Tell it on the Mountain, Winter Wonderland and many more were enjoyed by all. The children will never be short of a party piece over the festive season.
Tunes on the Tin Whistle.
